Description

The drawing is shaded to denote two building phases. The first, shaded, is the decagonal 'gambrel-type' spire structure constructed by James Essex in 1761-2. The second build is shown unshaded and gave the room a pyramidal form, constructed in 1800. This drawing was reproduced as Plate 122 on page 127 of Cecil A Hewett's 'English Cathedral and Monastic Carpentry', published in 1985.
