The note reads "THIS HORSE DRAWN CART WAS USED TO DELIVER BEERS TO THE DUNGENESS INNS PRIOR TO THE FORMATION OF THE ROAD ACROSS THE BEACH. THE BREWERS ARE INDEBTED TO ALDERMAN GORDON PAINE, MAYOR OF LYDD, FOR THE PERMANENT LOAN OF THIS UNIQUE VEHICLE. JULY 29TH 1955".
