Description

The Courage Brewery at Worton Grange was built by Laing between 1976 and 1980. The site took on the brewing capacity of Courage’s former Reading brewery in Bridge Street and their original Anchor Brewery in Horsleydown, Bermondsey, these both closed in 1981. The Worton Grange site itself eventually closed in April 2010 following a decline in sales of the beers made there and production was transferred to the brewery at Alton in Hampshire. The Berkshire Brewery as it became known was demolished in 2011-12 and a Tesco Distribution Centre now occupies the site. The fermentation vessels were a prominent landmark for motorists on the M4 until the brewery was closed.
