Description

The title of the plan reads 'A Plan of His Majesty's Castle of Portland AD 1528. Copied from the original held in the Tower of London, by Captain Manning, 1824'. The drawing shows some annotations on the main castle block relating to dimensions of a structure. The sheet also has a note reading 'Traced by J. Williams, Sergt. R.E. 17.3.66'. The sheet is also stamped with 'RE PC Portland District' and 'HM Office - Portland Division', and shows a note reading 'Handed over to Admiralty'. Captain Charles Manning was later the Governor of the castle from 1834.
