Description

The reverse of the print shows a handwritten note reading 'St Michael's Church, Beddington. Photograph taken solely by aid of the Electric Light Installation'. The interior of the church in the image does appear to be lit by electric light, and this seems to explain the presence of the stamp reading 'A Dean and Co Ltd' on the reverse of the print, a lighting engineering company who were likely to have provided the electric lighting.

There are also stamps reading 'Father Hamilton Maughan Collection' and 'B.R.A. 1906' , and another identifiying the print as having been held in the collection of the National Monuments Record. The photograph must have been created in 1906 when the church was built; the photograph was then held by Father Hamilton Maughan and subsequently donated to the British Records Association in 1906, then passed to the National Monuments Record in 1975.
