Description

A series of photographs of prison doors taken by Eileen Deste when she learned that the Home Office intended to replace many of the traditional prison doors with new, electronically operated versions.

Only a small proportion have so far been catalogued (see DES01/23/09 Eileen Deste: Prison Doors etc - Packet 9). According to the collection handlist the following material relating to prison doors is held by the Historic England Archive: "42 B&W films, all with contact-sheets. 20 colour films, all with contact-sheets. Box of assorted colour transparencies: 35mm, 6x6, 5x4 and 6 ½ x 4 ¾ ; 30 images in total. Box of 6 ½ x 4 ¾ colour negs; 12 in total. Box of mounted 35mm colour transparencies; 10 in total. Bag of 6 ½ x 4 ¾ black & white negs; 4 in total. Deste numbering: ‘P’ prefix followed by film numbers in-sequence. Colour films have ‘C’ suffix. Note that films are in sequentially-numbered wallets; 12 in total. Wallets contain different numbers of films in each case."
