Box of 14 packets, containing 346 prints, showing Laing research and development work from the 1950s to the 1970s, with work and projects by associated companies, and including views of:
- Laingspan beams being tested and used in the construction of buildings; - various new Laing road-making and building construction processes in development and use; - the erection and use of an inflatable Barracuda Air House at Laing's Mill Hill site in 1967; - testing work taking place in Laing's Structure Laboratory and Blister Hanger, including views of the Digital Measurements computing machine; - the work of Ground Engineering Ltd, including: strengthening the walls of the original Coventry Cathedral; off-shore drilling at Hunterstone, Ayrshire; angle-drilling at Blanaeu Ffestiniog; and sandstone bursting in Manchester; - the work of Dust Suppression Ltd, showing views of its proportioner equipment, before-and-after views of its work with various coal hoppers, docks, and quarries, and installations for British Rail in Peterborough, the Distillers' Company, and Rowley Regis granite quarry; - interior and exterior views of Thermalite factories in Birmingham, Agecroft (Manchester), Drakelow (Burton on Trent) and Reading; - the work of McKinney Foundations Ltd, showing general views of pile-driving and boring machines, with one view of operations on the Nutthall estate, Sandhurst; - Lytag cladding projects at 409 Kennington Park Road, London; Guy's Hospital; Cringle Dock Refuse Plant; Sainsbury's Warehouse, Buntingford; Roxburgh County Buildings, Newtown St Boswells, Scotland; and Doncaster Racecourse; with interior and exterior views of Lytag factories in Rugeley and Tilbury; - buildings utilising Laingwall panels, including a switch house at Southampton power station; the Laing Research and Development Centre at Borehamwood; and the Smithfield Market site building in Shrewsbury; - the Laing Research and Development Centre at Borehamwood under construction and after completion, along with views of a project team in conference and a man clearing snow from the grounds; - the Laing Safety Department Mobile Exhibition.
