Description

Box of 22 packets containing 338 prints and one colour negative, comprising:

- views of miscellaneous Laing construction projects, including: Distington forge and stamp (c.1940); Carlisle power station (1941-42); Spittlegate reservoir (mid-20th century); Windscale nuclear power station (1952); Laing's Bunns Lane office (late 1920s); 3 & 5 Norfolk Road, Carlisle (1930s); North Middlesex Gas Company offices, Arcadia Avenue, Finchley (1930s); offices for Service Electric Co. Ltd (Stanmore), Martindale Electric Co. Ltd (Queensbury) and Ulvir Ltd (Elstree) in 1949; the Ministry of Pensions office, Newcastle upon Tyne (1921); the Mayfair Carriage Company offices, Queensbury (1933); Rolls-Royce motor works, Cricklewood (1935); Willow Holme power station (1940s); Blackwell Brickworks, Derbyshire (1920s and 1940s/50s); Brisco Brickworks, near Carlisle (1940s/50s); the Adhesive Tapes Ltd factory and offices in Borehamwood (early 1950s); Woodcroft Hall, Mill Hill (1920s); and a variety of unidentified sites, including an unidentified factory (possibly a brewery or distillery) in the late 1960s or early 1970s; a quarry and a cement works in Shoreham; a bridge pier or foundation; and a French river landing stage. There is also a packet of colour transparencies showing a variety of Laing construction projects in the 1970s/80s.

- a folder relating to the work of Laing's Research and Development company, with prints showing the company's laboratories, technical facilities, library and offices, along with views of decorative Faircrete panels, including a sculpture group by William Mitchell; - views of machinery: a print showing an 1861 Post Crane on Western Avenue (possibly the one in Greenford) in January 1969, and one showing a Robey diesel compressor in an unidentified building.
