Description

Sixty-nine sheets of drawings of the castle and other state-managed sites in Totnes, including the former Gun Carriage Workshop on Station Road. There are also several copies of elevations of the High Street.

The earliest sheets include an Ordnance Survey map from the edition of 1933 and deed plans from 1947. There are miscellaneous plans and sections from the 1950s, and a reproduction drawing and proposals for a new gate from 1954.

From the 1960s there are drawings relating to the motte, a mound to the east of the castle's keep, and boundaries in 1962, which also appears in versions revised to 1963, 1970 and 1973.

A number of sheets from the late 1960s and early 1970s show a survey of the castle's motte and the retaining wall to Castle Street. There are other drawings from the same period showing designs for a new retaining wall.

There are drawings of the Totnes Ancient Monuments Depot from 1979. This building may be the same which appears later (in drawings from 1985) as the Workshop, and was known more fully as the Totnes Gun Carriage Workshop.

A set of mechanical and engineering services drawings from 1984 are included, along with later sheets from between 1986 and 1995 relating to a new castle walkway handrail, a tree survey, a temporary custodian's toilet and new railings and a gate.
