Description

This material was collected by Nigel Temple as research archive for his book on George Stanley Repton's sketchbook housed in the Royal Pavilion Art Gallery, Brighton; three similar volumes in Repton's hand are held by RIBA.

It comprises 9 archival enclosures containing copies of photographs and sketches, some original photographic prints, and illustrated extracts from journals; none of it copies the notebook itself. Subjects include lodges, various garden buildings and a range of farm structures. Temple appears to have used this material to attempt to identify subjects in Repton's notebook.

Although the files have been annotated with broad locational information, most of their contents is not well or reliably attributed and remains largely unidentified. Locations include Blaise, Henbury, Aqualate Hall, Barnsley Park, Brampton Park, Brooklands, Northerwood, Warrens, Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex, Sarsden, Herefordshire and some of Wales.

Nigel Temple's book is entitled: George Repton's Pavilion Notebook (Scolar Press, 1993,296 pp., 282 illustrations., ISBN 0 85967 903 9).
