The Lord Mayor of Bristol presented the tenant with the key to their new flat. They were the 16,689th tenant to be housed or rehoused by the local council following the end of the Second World War in 1945. Britain was in the midst of the 'Baby-Boom,' a time of rapid population growth and the demand for new housing was significant. During the 1950s and 1960s John Laing plc built tens of thousands of new homes across the country using the 'Easiform' technique. Concrete walls were constructed on site using a system of moveable steel formwork, rather than conventional bricks and mortar. Buildings could be put up more quickly and cheaply using this method. This block of flats was the 3000th Easiform building in Bristol.
