Butter Cross, Witney, Oxfordshire

This market cross was built in the late 16th/early 17th century. It has the inscription "Erected 1683 by Gulilmus Blake Armiger of Cogges". This date relates to when the cupola was added. Guilimus (William) Blake lived at Manor Farm in Cogges. An Armiger is a word used to describe a (noble) person who was entitled to use a coat of arms. The clock was added in 1889.
