Cementation Furnace, Sheffield, South Yorkshire
This furnace was built in the late 19th century. It was restored in the mid 20th century. The furnace was used on Blister steel until 1870. Blister steel was the first type of commercially produced steel. The process in the cementation furnace left it with a blistered appearance, hence it's name. It remained in use until 1952. It is now the sole survivor of a Sheffield industrial building once numerous in the city.
