Construction work at Berkeley Nuclear Power Station, Berkeley, Gloucestershire

A crane lifting one of the boilers into its final position. Each of the two reactors at the power station had eight boilers like this one. Berkeley was among the first generation of nuclear reactors in Britain. The power station generated electricity for the national grid from 1962 until 1989. Alone it produced enough electricity per day to power a city the size of Bristol. The size of the workers compared to the components of the building demonstrates the scale of such construction projects.
