Erecting Shop ('A' Shop), GWR Works, Swindon, Wiltshire
'A' Shop dealt with machining and fitting. While there had been works at Swindon since the 1840s this section was only commissioned in 1900 and finished in 1904. Despite its size the site soon became too small for the size of locomotives the company wanted to build.
