Family entering their newly built house on the Hartcliffe Estate, Bristol

A couple with two young children entering their newly built house on the Hartcliffe Estate in Bristol, Gloucestershire. The image shows a crowd of people celebrating the family moving into their new house which was the 5000th Easiform house completed in Bristol by John Laing plc. Easiform was a type of housing which was built quickly using concrete and it was patented by Laing in the 1920s. The large crowd demonstrates how important housing was to the British people in the post-war years and it was a key issue in the 1945, 1950 and 1951 general elections.
