Fountains Abbey, Fountains, North Yorkshire

This is a reconstruction drawing of Fountains Abbey by the artist Alan Sorrell. Fountains Abbey was a Cistercian monastery founded in the 1130s. It was in use for over 400 years. It was closed in 1539 as part of Henry VIIIs Dissolution of the monasteries. Today the ruins of the abbey are largest monastic (church) ruins in the country.
