Halwyn, Port Isaac, Cornwall
This large whitewashed building was originally a ship building yard. Part of the building dates back to the early 19th century. During the 19th century the ship building yard was owned by W.R. Guy. It was later bought by Captain William Vickery. It was converted to a private house in the 1920s. The last vessel built at the yard was Bessy Jane, mastered by Richard Mitchell whose nick name was Dandy Dick. Halwyn is in a particularly prominent position on the south side of Port Isaac harbour. Port Isaac now relies mainly on tourism.
