Higher Mill, Higher Mill Lane, Buckfastleigh, Devon
There was a mill on this site by at least 1730. It was described as a tucking mill by 1760. Tucking is the part of woollen clothmaking which involves the cleaning of the wool. In 1800 "Mills" were described as "lately erected on the site previously occupied by the tucking mill". By 1953 the buildings were in use as a plating works. Samuel Berry was the owner of the mill in the late 18th - early 19th centuries. He built himself a house at Buckfast Abbey. The mill was disused in 1992 but has since been restored.
