Holme Moss BBC Transmitter, Holme Moss, Kirklees, West Yorkshire

A man working on the control desk in the ancillary building for the BBC transmitter mast at Holme Moss. Holme Moss transmitting station was the BBC's third public television transmitter, launched on 12 October 1951. The mast survived until 1985. A replacement mast was constructed, adjacent, in 1984. Television signals from Holme Moss travelled much further than their intended service area. The Isle of Man and parts of the Irish Republic could receive a signal from Holme Moss for some years.
