This mile post is on a canal towpath between bridges 46 and 47 on the Grand Union Canal. It was built in c1893. It reads 'GJC Co LEICESTER 23 MILES'. The 'Old' Grand Union Canal of 1810-14 became the Leicester line of the Grand Junction Canal in 1893-4.
