Neolithic (Stone Age) Grain Production
This reconstruction drawing shows the different stages of producing grain in the Neolithic. The stages include; ploughing, sowing seeds, harvesting, threshing and finally grinding into flour using a saddle quern. The Neolithic or New Stone Age is the first time archaeologists find evidence for people farming and growing grain. Before this time people lived a more nomadic life style as hunter gathers, moving seasonally from place to place, making the most of naturally available sources of food.
