Old Guildhall, Market Street, Poole

A very fine example of a Georgian guildhall. The quality of the design shows how wealthy Poole was in the 18th century. The town council met in a room on the first floor. The building is an important focus in Market Street. The ground floor formerly contained an open market. It was built in 1761 for John Gultson and Colonel Thomas Calcraft who were MPs for Poole. Their names are inscribed on tablets. The building was restored in 1994.
