Priory Gatehouse, Church Green, West Acre, Norfolk

This 14th century gatehouse is all that remains of the Priory of St. Mary and All Saints. It was founded in c1100 by the de Toni family. It later adopted the Augustinian rule. It was closed in 1538 as part of Henry VIII's Dissolution of the monasteries. It was one of the first of the greater religious houses to surrender to Henry. Excavations in the 1920s revealed foundations of many building and so the layout of the priory.
