Reading Abbey, Reading, Berkshire

The ruined south walls of the abbey. The abbey was founded in 1121 for Cluniac monks by Henry I. He was buried there. It was the only Cluniac house to be given abbey status. It became benedictine in the 13th century. It was suppressed in 1539 during the Dissolution and much of its stone was robbed from it and reused.
