Reconstruction of Portchester Castle in c1608, Portchester, Hampshire
This is a reconstruction drawing of what the inner bailey looked like in c1608-9. It was at this time that the East Ranges of the castle were remodelled by the last constable of the castle, Sir Thomas Cornwallis. In 1609 the new range was described as 'containing four fair lodging chambers above and as many rooms for office below'. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2011). Find out more.
