Royal York Crescent, Clifton, Bristol
This terrace of 46 houses was built by James Lockier from 1791. It was probably designed by William Paty and is in late Georgian style. The exteriors were finished before a financial crash caused building work to stop in 1801. The crash was due to the cost of the war with France. It left property all over Clifton incomplete. It was 30 years before the crescent was finished. It is believed to be the longest terrace in Europe. It stands out as a very striking part of the view of Clifton from across the River Avon.
