The sailing ship 'Ellida' moored at Salford Docks. This is possilby the same Ellida which arrived at Liverpool from Laurvig (Larvik) on April 23rd 1895. (Glasgow Herald, 24.4.1895). The photograph shows a range of shipping from sailing ships like the Ellida to steam powered boats. Salford Docks, on the Manchester ship canal, handled different cargoes including timber and grain. There were also dry docks for repairing and fitting out ships. The area is now (2014) known as Salford Quays. It is used mainly for leisure but also houses Media City.
