Souter Point Lighthouse, Boldon, Tyne and Wear
This lighthouse, engine house, boilerhouse, workshops and houses were built in 1871 by Sir James N Douglas for Trinity House, London (the Official Lighthouse Authority). It stands on Lizard Point, but to avoid confusion with the Cornish Lizard Lighthouse it is named after Souter Point - the next point south. It was the first lighthouse specifically constructed for electric illumination (carbon arc lamps).
