St Augustine's Priory, Priory Road, Newton Abbot, Devon

St Augustine's Priory was built in the early 19th century as a house. It was remodelled and extended as a priory in 1861. A chapel was built in 1863 designed by JA Hansom. The Priory was the principal house of the Augustinian English Canonesses Regular established in 1861. There is a remarkable gothic altar by CA Buckler lit from a lantern above over a large octagonal tower which is supported on stilted arches with marble and banded columns.
