St Michaels Cathedral, Coventry, West Midlands
A view looking towards St Michael's Church (Coventry Cathedral) from New Street with the dispensary visible in the foreground. The Cathedral was built on the site of a chapel which was first documented in 1144. This particular building dates mostly from the 14th and 15th centuries. It was restored by J. Oldrid Scott between 1883-90 and made a collegiate church in 1908. It became a cathedral in 1918 but was badly damaged by bombing in 1941, and replaced by a new cathedral designed by Basil Spence in 1951-62.
