Swedish House, Canning Town, London

By the end of World War II there was a severe shortage of housing in Britain, leading to the Ministry of Works developing a Temporary Housing Programme between 1944 and 1948. PoWs were paid by local authorities to erect prefabricated houses, providing an essential workforce.
