By the end of World War II there was a severe shortage of housing in Britain, leading to the Ministry of Works developing a Temporary Housing Programme between 1944 and 1948. PoWs were paid by local authorities to erect prefabricated houses, providing an essential workforce.

Built in 1936 this house is derived from the Sunspan design, first exhibited at the 1934 Ideal Home Exhibition. The design was intended for builders as an alternative to the usual traditional design of house.
