The Salt House, Marhamchurch, Cornwall

These buildings were connected with salting fish. They are described as the most northerly fish cellar in N J G Pounds survey, "Cornish Fish Cellars". Fish Cellars were connected with the seine (a type of net) fishing industry and were used for salting pilchards. The buildings are built behind the slope of the land, giving some protection from the sea. They are on a rapidly eroding cliff top. 2 fields between the buildings and the cliff edge have disappeared since 1900.
