War Memorial, Loftus, Redcar and Cleveland

This drinking fountain and trough date from the late 19th century. The war memorial, steps and railings were put up in 1922 and designed by W. Arrowsmith and B.J. Wormleighton. The inscription reads "THESE LAID THE WORLD AWAY POURED OUT THE RED SWEET WINE OF YOUTH GAVE UP THE YEARS TO BE OF WORK AND JOY AND THAT UNHOPED SERENE THAT MEN CALL AGE". Metal plates bear the names of the fallen in World War One and World War Two.
