Warkworth Castle, Warkworth, Alnwick, Northumberland
Warkworth Castle in Northumberland, showing the Grey Mare's Tail tower and the keep from the east. Work on the tower began in the 13th century and is notable for its unusual carvings of human heads and a crucifix, either the work of a bored crossbowman or a prisoner. This property is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
