Wilton Parish Church, Wilton, Wiltshire
Built in 1841-44. by the architects T. H. Wyatt and D. Brandon for the Rt. Hon. Sir Sydney Herbert (later Lord Herbert of Lea), Secretary at War, and for his mother the Russian dowager countess of Pembroke. It cost £20,000. It is partly on site of an earlier mediaeval church. It is built in an Italianate Romanesque/Byzantine style. Several piece of stone and stained glass are 'reclaimed'. These include real Roman pillars, c.2nd C B.C from the Temple of Venus at Porto Venere, 11thC masonry and 12-14th C stained glass from England, France and Germany.
