Meet the Team

The Levelling Up Places Service is made up of a team of advisers and coordinators who offer a wide range of skills and expertise across various disciplines including heritage, culture, finance, engineering, communications and more. We will profile one team member every month to showcase the work they do, the unique skills and knowledge they offer, and how they’re contributing to the service and its customers.

This month, we hear from Ezra Mugambi, Levelling Up Service Coordinator in the North.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am Ezra Mugambi, the Levelling Up Places Service Co-ordinator for the North of England. I work with and for seven DCMS Arm’s Length Bodies developing relationships, co-ordinating advice and joined up working on areas of common interests, and, supporting the North Area Towns Group Meeting in the quest to deliver Levelling Up objectives, making places better for good.

How did you become a member of the Levelling Up Places Service team?

Professionally, I am a development economist and this path led me to seeking opportunities that have an impact on people’s lives. I joined the service at a time when the need to reduce inequality in, between and within places was clear and this gave me an opportunity to utilise my skills to contribute to improving places especially using key elements like heritage, culture and sport that make up the fabric of our community.

How would you describe your experience working with the service in the last 10 months?

The opportunity to add value to Levelling Up Funded projects by joining up conversations on Heritage, Arts, Culture and Sports which has led us to identify new opportunities as well as provide capacity for delivery of the projects has been exciting.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests

I do practice sustainable farming which is my favourite way to spend the holidays. In recent times I have been listening to way too much classical music a bit of Johann Strauss II and Edward Elgar and I certainly do enjoy watching English football.

What’s your favourite moment or engagement with customers, partners, or team members as part of the LUP service?

Every engagement so far has been great and it’s difficult to choose a specific moment, but I will go with a recurring event which is the Area Towns Group meeting which happens every 6 weeks. It has been a wonderful opportunity for partners to discuss and collaborate on key agendas as well as provide prompt support to Levelling Up Projects to ensure delivery of quality outputs and desirable outcomes.
