Training Courses

Our training courses for local authorities and heritage professionals cover a variety of topics across several programmes.

These range from the fundamentals of historic environment management through to technical and specialist skills, all aimed at supporting good management of the Historic Environment.

They are delivered primarily through e-learning that learners can access when and where suits them best, with webinars, workshops and other blended sessions to support learning.

  • Climate Change and Heritage

    Our Climate Change and the Historic Environment programme delivers training that will deepen understanding of the role that the historic environment can play in climate action and aid the deployment of existing and emerging government policies, legislation and good practice on climate change.

  • Heritage Carbon Literacy

    Historic England is now rolling out Carbon Literacy training to heritage organisations. This engaging online course provides a great foundation for organisations to begin to take first steps towards carbon reduction. The course is also available to individual organisations to train their staff, trustees and volunteers.

  • Essentials

    For non-heritage or early careers heritage officers in local authorities whose activities advice and decision making affects the historic environment.

  • Historic Environment Management

    The Historic Environment Management programme covers topics relating to government policy, legislation and good practice supporting professionals whose work affects the historic environment.

  • Key Skills for Historic Environment Management

    Our Keys Skills training supports heritage professionals in the public and private sector, particularly in management and leadership roles.

  • Micro-learn Library

    Historic England is creating a new micro-learning library. Each lesson focuses on a specific topic related to our wider programmes and courses. These lessons cover fundamentals, technical skills, and specialised knowledge for professionals.
