Historic England Announces Funding For Bedford Regeneration
Historic England has awarded a grant of £490,000 for the revitalisation of Bedford’s historic Tavistock Street and Broadway areas, building on the successful regeneration work already completed in the town centre.
The funding, delivered through a Partnership Schemes in Conservation Areas (PSICA) initiative, will breathe new life into these historic areas by supporting building repairs and shopfront improvements – shining a light on the town's rich heritage.
Run by Bedford Borough Council, the scheme will restore historic features, enhance shopfronts and facades, and support business owners to install appropriate signage, creating an inviting destination that captures Bedford's unique character.
The new funding builds on the achievements of the Bedford High Street Heritage Action Zone, which transformed six prominent shopfronts and delivered 4,508 square metres of public realm improvements, including the repaving of Silver Street and the widening of the High Street pavement.
