This sculpture is one of four created by Joseph Pitts in the 1850s. The sculptures were commissioned by porcelain manufacturers Coalport, and were based on 'The Faerie Queene' by Edmund Spenser. This may have been photographed by William England for the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company. On the reverse of the card is pasted an extract from 'The Faerie Queen' titled 'Sir Calepine Rescuing Serina' (sic).
