The label below the photograph reads 'Foundation Stone Ceremony, St. Bees School, 1953'. This is the foundation ceremony for a new assembly hall, known as Memorial Hall, that was built at the existing school. The foundation stone ceremony was carried out by Sir Robert Chance, Lord Lieutenant, on 18th July 1953.
The photograph album has the name W J Beckwith inside the album cover. It is not clear if this is the name of the owner and/or the photographer.
